Data validation with Wildcards

Is it possible to specify wildcards in the standard Excel data validation dialog i.e. I want a user to enter data in the format ***-***-*** where * is any alphanumeric character and the hyphen is well, a hyphen!?!

Use a "Custom" validation criteria with the
formula, =ISNUMBER(MATCH("???-???-???",A1,0)),
where the contents of cell A1 is that you want
to validate.
