formatting time into text

is it possible to show '0:04' as '4 mins' ?

Sort of. Format your cell(s) as
m:ss "mins"

If you just use m "mins" it thinks you're looking for a month.

My colleague has in fact found a more elegant way of doing this through the custom format menu i.e [m]"mins" where 'm' could be any of the usual units and 'mins' can be whatever text you want.
