Removing unwanted links from a file

I have an excel file that used to be linked to another file.
I believe I have removed all of the links, but when I
open the file it still ask me if I would like to update the
linked information. I would like to delete all links to this
file. I can't seem to find a way to do this using the "Links"
manager. Is there a way?

Brent,
Here is what I would do. First of all, go to the edit menu, select links, and find out the exact name of the source file or files that are still linked to your spreadsheet. Write these down. Then go to each sheet in your workbook (if your workbook has more than one sheet) and press ctrl+f to search within your spreadsheet. In the "Find what:" box, type the name of the source file you are looking for. Make sure that in the "Look in:" box, you select formulas. Click the find next button, and it should find each formula that contains the source file as part of the formula, or in other words it will find each cell that is linked to that particular source file. You can then remove the reference to that source file, thereby removing the link.

Thanks for the speedy response. I tried your advice but it didn't seem to work. I can't find any instances of the links in any sheets. I also deleted all of my Defined Names from each sheet and that did not work either. Do you have any other suggestions?

have you tried linking the file to itself instead of to the current source file?
there's also a microsoft solution which i'll post when i find it.
