formula reference question

If I have a formula in cell A50 that contains the formula SUM(A1:A49) to make this formula sort of dynamic so that as I add rows above the formula it will still take the total? What I'd like is for the formula to add A1 through 1 cell above whichever cell in column A the formula resides in. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Into A50 enter =SUM(A1:OFFSET(A50,-1,)) [nt]
